1. The Context
At Archimetis, we're building an AI-powered system that transforms industrial manufacturing. We deliver data-driven guidance that helps plant engineers and operators achieve greater efficiency, improved safety, and a lower carbon footprint. Our platform combines time-series analytics, knowledge graphs, and AI reasoning engines to empower better decision-making at the frontlines of manufacturing operations.
We are always on the lookout for process engineers that can bridging the gap between plant operations and technology.
2. The role
As a Process Metallurgist, you are Archimetis's subject matter authority for metals - the person in the room who has been there, who understands the unit operations, the process variability, and the business pressures that define steel mills, aluminum smelters, and copper refineries.
You will embed with our customers to diagnose their highest-value operational challenges and translate them into AI-powered solutions on our platform.
This is not a lab or research role. You are a practitioner who moves fluidly between a customer's plant floor and their executive conference room. You will own the metallurgical credibility of our engagements, partnering closely with our Forward Deployed Engineers to ensure the solutions we build are technically sound, operationally meaningful, and deliver measurable business impact.
3. Responsibilities
- Be the Metals Authority: Serve as the internal and external subject matter expert across the metals value chain - from primary production (smelting, casting, reduction) through secondary processing (rolling, forging, heat treatment, finishing). Customers should recognize your insider’s credibility.
- Lead Technical Discovery: Work on-site with process engineers, metallurgists, and
plant managers to deeply understand their operational environment, identify root causes of process variability, and frame the highest-value problems for our platform to solve. - Shape the Solution: Translate metallurgical process knowledge into concrete feature requirements, model configurations, and KPI frameworks. Define what "good" looks like for yield, quality, energy consumption, and throughput in each customer context.
- Drive Customer Outcomes: Partner with FDEs throughout the customer lifecycle to ensure our solutions achieve and prove tangible value - reduced scrap rates, improved yield, lower energy intensity, tighter quality tolerances.
- Build Archimetis's Metals Playbook: Codify what you learn across engagements into reusable frameworks, diagnostic tools, and domain content that accelerates future deployments and sharpens our product.
- Influence the Product Roadmap: Be the voice of the metals customer with our core Product and Engineering teams. Surface the gaps, edge cases, and opportunities that only someone with deep domain experience can see.
- Grow the Practice: As the metals vertical scales, help recruit, onboard, and mentor the next generation of domain specialists on the team.
4. Qualifications
- Deep Metals Domain Knowledge: You have 8+ years of hands-on experience in process metallurgy, with meaningful exposure across multiple segments of the metals value chain (e.g., steelmaking, aluminum smelting or rolling, copper refining). You understand the physics and chemistry - phase diagrams, heat transfer, solidification, microstructure-property relationships - and you know how these translate to real process decisions on the plant floor.
- Breadth Across the Value Chain: You are not a one-process specialist. You have worked across primary and secondary operations, and you can speak credibly about process challenges at different stages - from the furnace to the finishing line.
- Proven Customer-Facing Experience: You have spent significant time advising customers, leading technical workstreams, or delivering solutions in a consulting, technology, or OEM context. You are comfortable owning relationships with senior engineers and plant leadership, not just participating in them.
- Strong Communication Skills: You can command a room of process engineers and a room of executives with equal confidence. You are an effective translator between deep technical detail and business impact.
- Data and Analytics Fluency: You are comfortable working with process data -historians, time-series trends, quality lab data, and production logs. You don't need to write production code, but you can interrogate data, spot anomalies, and draw conclusions from quantitative evidence.
- Autonomous and Mission-Driven: You thrive in a fast-moving startup environment. You are energized by ambiguity, motivated by impact, and comfortable operating without a large team or established playbook behind you.
5. Bonus skills
- Experience with industrial data historian platforms (OSIsoft PI, AspenTech IP.21, Honeywell PHD).
- Exposure to process simulation or modeling tools used in metallurgical contexts (e.g., FactSage, ProCAST, or similar).
- A degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
- Experience working internationally or with global industrial customers.
6. Why join us?
At Archimetis, you'll build systems that have real-world impact in critical industries. You'll work with a highly collaborative team of experienced engineers and domain experts who value clean
design, thoughtful architecture, and pragmatic decision-making. This is a rare opportunity to be the founding domain expert in a vertical, shape how an AI company enters and wins in metals, and grow into a leadership role as the practice scales.
If you're a scrappy self-starter who enjoys systems thinking and wants your work to have immediate real-world impact, we'd love to talk.
